AS OLD AS THE HILLS

While conducting the national census, one unsuspecting census taker knocked on a particular lady's door. The lady graciously answered every question except one. When asked to reveal her age, she flatly refused. "But, ma'am, everyone gives their age for the census," the census taker protested. "Well, did the Hill twins, Doris and Delores, tell you their ages?" she asked. "Of course," came the reply. "Then put down my age as the same as theirs, because we were all born the same year." The perplexed census taker wrote in the space beside the word "age" this notation: "As old as the Hills."

Not many of us would take that as a compliment, after all, who wants to be known for being "as old as the hills." It may only be a figure of speech, but who wants it applied to them? It's interesting, isn't it, how age becomes much more of a relative thing the older we get. When I was 25, I thought those who are my present age were "old." Now I look at it as being "mature." One of my granddaughters recently brought me back to reality, though, by telling her mother to go easy on me because "Poppy is old."

Or course, in reality there's only one who is as old as the hills - God. The psalmist said, "Before the mountains were born, Or Thou didst give birth to the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God." - (Ps. 90:2).

Jehovah is indeed older than the hills, but for Him it's not something to be ashamed of, because it's one of the proofs of His divinity. He is timeless, dwelling outside the realm of time as we know it, transcending all its limitations, and having existed from "everlasting to everlasting." In fact, His agelessness is one of those things that proves He's God. Yes, Jehovah is "as old as the hills," and because of it we can confidently say, "Thou art God."
