"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." - (Jn. 14:1-3).
"Hey, Bill," a man said to his friend, "how do you like your new job?" "It's the worst job I've ever had," answered Bill. "Well, how long have you been there?" "Oh, about five or six months." "Well, if you hate it so badly, why don't you quit?" "No way," Bill responded. "This is the first time in over twenty years I've looked forward to going home."
Do you ever get to feeling like Bill when you consider living in this world? There are certainly a lot of things about life here that are enjoyable, but this world is definitely far from perfect. There's more than enough injustice, pain, and just plain meanness in this old world to make life plenty miserable. And it's so easy to focus on that stuff, too, and lose sight of the good that's in our world. But as good as the eighth rock from the sun is, it can't compare with the place Jesus is preparing for those who love and obey Him. Of course, we call it heaven, a word that has become a synonym for anything that's only describable as "out of this world." What a treat is in store for those who will live there: no pain, no separation, no sickness; just unending satisfaction and enjoyment.
Peter described it as "an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you"- (1 Pet. 1:4). What's that? Reserved - no waiting in line? Now that's for me!
I'm looking forward to going home. I hope you are too.
